Microsoft Word Bullet Format?

I have a problem with setting the spacing and indents on my bullets in Microsoft Word. I tried to click the bullet and customize a setting for each indent, but it seems to reset itself and often does whatever it wants.

Can someone please give me a step by step how to customize the bullet lists so the indents and symbols are the same everytime I create a new document?

input your own bullet tabs at the top in the ruler bar.

the white bar across the top of the page, with numbers like a ruler.

click in there where you want your indents to be, and a little L shape should appear

now when you add a bullet list, put bullet 'a' type what you want, then press enter and tab. and it should tab over to where you set it.

but as for everytime you open a new doc, you got me there. sorry.
