This is just an opinion. There are pre-set macros, and macros we create ourselves. Once people start getting "clever" and creating macro after macro all in the name of saving keystrokes, it can become more burdensome then time/keystroke saving. What happens is the list of shortcut keys to activate a macro gets to the point some people have to make a list because it's too many to remember. So then there's time wasted referring to the list, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of creating them in the first place. That's my take on what I think you're asking.

There is absolutely no disadvantage to creating a macro in whatever program if it is for a reptetitive or complicated procedure. For instance, I know you specify Word, but in Excel if you need to see subtotals, you firstly have to sort so this is an excellent application for a macro to sort, then create the subtotals, and then a second macro for reverting back to normal.
