Microsoft Word won't allow me to replace text?

Somehow Microsoft Word stopped allowing me to select text and replace it all by backspacing, typing, or copy/pasting new text in. It just adds the text to the end of the old text.

I am able to actually select the text, but the replacing part is the problem. You know how you can select all the text then press backspace and it will all erase? Mine won't do that. I have to hold backspace down for ages.

What went wrong?

This is a Word option setting:

1.Click on the Tools-%26gt;Options menu item.

2.Click the Edit tab.

3.Under Editing Options, check the check box next to "Typing replaces selection".

4.Click OK.

Thanks so much! Resolved at last :) Report It

Either you are using the evaluation version and you trial time is up (To solve this copy and paste the text into notepad or wordpad to edit it) (To select all the text hit Ctrl+A)

OR

You are viewing a Read Only file. If this is the case copy and paste all the text (To select all the text hit Ctrl+A) into a new word document.
Try hitting Ins key then try again
*File that you want to edit may be 'read only' file. open properties of file and in general tab attributes, Read-Only and Hidden are given check that Read-Only attribute un-check if it is not then un-check that then OK.

*Some time when file is open in readonly mode then also we cann't edit it.

*or uninstall office with it's settings reboot pc and again install office with it's default settings.
