An example of a one-to-one relationship is this: One table holds the list of clients, and the other holds the address information for each client. This type of relationship is often a sign that the database is not properly normalized.
An example of many-to-many relationship is a library database where the books in one table relate to many borrowers in the other table, and vice versa - each borrower may be associated with many books. This type of relationship would require additional tables to hold the actual relationships between books and borrowers, and vice versa.
