Microsoft Word - can't overwrite a selection?

Whenever you enter text on your computer, if you select some text and then type, it instantly DELETES the selected text and REPLACES it with yours.

This should also happen in Microsoft Word. However, it has just stopped. Instead, it now puts the new text I am writing at the beginning of the selected text, without any deletion.

This is NOT the Insert key on my keyboard, or the OVR button at the bottom of Word - these replace text (whether selected or not) one character at a time.

Does anyone know what has changed, please? We are all stumped.

Many thanks.

Sounds as if a DLL has been deleted or something else has gone whacky. Usually these things correct themselve upon restarting the system, but if not just uninstall and reinstall MS Word and the problem should be resolved.

There is no error or corupt .dll file as this answer says. The second answer is right. Report It

Try this.

Go to Tools %26gt; Options, Choose Tab "Edit", Check Typing replaces selection.

I hope it can solve your problem.
