In all of my Microsoft Office programs for XP, the spell check is non-existent. It's not just disabled or turned off, it's completely unavailable. For example, in Word, the tab in the options menu where it says "Spelling and Grammar" is grayed out--you can't select the tab and turn on any of the features. Also, the spell check option is not in the menu anywhere. I have had no luck finding an answer for this problem, and I have taken it to trained computer experts who also have no idea what the problem is. Someone told me it is a registry error, but I have no idea how to fix that. Please help?
Microsoft Office spell check is unavailable.?virus scan
Try this:
Close Word.
Rename the following folder (or folders) :
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof\???? (where the ? stands for 4 numbers).
Start Word with a blank sheet, type in something strange and start the spell-checker using key F7.
Word tells you that the module has not been installed and asks you to (re)install it.
Be sure to have your installation disks at hand and answer 'yes'.
Word installs the module from scratch and the problem should be solved.

I'm in Word 2003.
If you click Help, there is an option for Detect and Repair.
Click it and give it a try. I don't know if it will install Spellcheck, but it can't hurt!
Have your CD ready just in case and good luck.
When you initially installed, you must not have done a full install. If you have a legitimate CD, you might be able to install selective utilities.
