Microsoft Word, article spacing?

I am using microsoft word for my article i am writing for school. and in articles once u change paragraphs there is no actual space e.g.

Because this is my example i am writing.

As this is the case with most potatoes it does not acutually

Okay random example i know, but the problem is when i click space to go the next line, it thinks im starting a new paragraph, so it skips two lines, and i go backspace and press enter again, then so i manually press spacebar to the next line and press tab but it doesn't work, it just sends half my workd all squished together, btw i am using Word 2003

Just select everything that you've already written, right click in the middle of paragraph, select paragraph.. and then select 0 (zero) for paragraph spacing, that will eliminate the spacing between paragraphs.
