My friend Rachael recently bought a computer from a fly by night computer shop and she believes that the operating system on it, Windows XP Pro is pirated. I checked it and it definately appears to be so.
Is there anyway she can report it to Microsoft or something and get a legitimate version of Windows for free?

Not unless she wants the pirates coming to do a drive by on her house or her workplace there isn't. Microsoft will only give you a free copy if you appear in court to testify against them, and then they get to see your face and their lawyer knows where you live. She might as well just take the money she saved buying a cheap system and go buy a legal copy of Windows off craigslist or something. They're only like $40 or so, and it sure beats a .40 caliber enema any day.
