Microsoft Word 2003. Strange margin?

In Microsoft Word 2003. Does anyone know why my cursor for new documents starts at the top with no margin? I checked the page setup and there are margins for the top and bottom. When I view headers, the margins show but I do not want to have to click show headers everytime I open a new document to see the margins. I deleted the normal.dot but no luck in fixing issue. I am in "print layout" view by the way.

Point your cursor to the very edge of the top of the page, but not to the bottom part of the ruler. (There is a grey line between the top of the page and the bottom of the ruler - you must point to that grey line) Two arrows will appear. Click and your margin will be back!

I've seen a box accidentally drawn and cause type to run around it. Word sometimes doesn't show clearly in print layout mode. Try typing a few lines and looking at the print preview. Although print layout is supposed to be accurate, it isn't always.
