Microsoft Word buttons frozen???

On Microsoft Word 2007, most of the buttons for changing style, size, etc. are all frozen and unclickable. it was working fine yesterday and suddenly now the buttons are frozen. anybody know the solution to this problem? please help???

Any number of things could have happened:

1) Word may have crashed.

2) The object you are trying to change is not selected anymore.

3) You computer is lagging from trying to do too many things at once.

Try these things:

1) Use keyboard functions (Ctrl+S for save, etc)

2) Close Word and restart the application

3) Close Word and restart the computer

Is it a trial program? If so then the trial has probably expired. You can tell if at the bottom it says the file is locked from editing. In this case...you can actually get around it. All you have to do is change the date on your computer to anytime before the program is locked. So if the program trial expired on the 12th, then set the computer date to the 11th and it should work. Otherwise if it's a legitimate copy try System Restore.
