microsoft windows is considered an operating system

linux and apple are also operating systems,

they are made for different hardware and for different users...

apple is, i am told, more user friendly, but can only be used on computers baught from the apple site

linux is a operating system made to be like UNIX but free, but can be hard to use for a basic user

windows is like apple but works on almost all IBM compatible (pretty much any computer that doesnt have an apple symbol, but there are some made just for UNIX) computers and is what most people use now
